The appeal court of Sierra Leone has today, December 14th 2023 dismissed the appeal made by the former president Ernest Bai Koroma on the commission of inquiry case. A panel of three judges reached a unanymous decision to dismiss the reasons for the appeal and ordered the former president to pay over fifteen million dollars ($15m+) within 30 day.
This comes at a time when the former president is under tremendous pressure from the police investigation of his involvement into the failed coup, which took place on November 26th 2023. The former president has been put under house arrest for the past week, while been interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Freetown. The government has announced that the former president is a criminal suspect relating to the failed coup.
Supporters of the former president, including members of his party, especially the executive of the All Peoples Congress (APC) are tightlip in discussing this issue.
