Over the past six months, there have been several debates on the issue of the tripartite mandate and outcome. There are those who believe the tripartite committee has a constitutional mandate that allowed them to force the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) to release the disaggregated results of the 2023 elections, which the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) said it was rigged.
On the other hand, there are those who believe the tripartite committee did not have the power to force the ECSL to publish any result after the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) failed to go to court. They argued that the only legal entity to force ECSL to release any result is the supreme court.
The tripartite committee has now completed it work and there is no longer a doubt that a rerun is out of the question. Hence, some members of the opposition APC are disappointed, because that was the only hope to reverse the presidency of of Maada Bio.
The committee came up with 80 recommendation ranging from constitutional amendment to institutional improvements for the next elections.
