Why Hon. Mohamed Bangura is leaving the APC party

Hon. Mohamed Bangura is a current APC member of parliament. In recent times, he has involved in internal fight with his party the All Peoples’ Congress (APC) over the 2023 parliamentary and presidential elections.

The APC party alleged that the presidential election was rigged. The party urged his members of parliament to boycott going to parliament. Hon. Mohamed Bangura told the party executives that the decision to boycott parliament is a dumb idea and he would not abide by such decision.

He went to parliament without the authorization of the executive. This action created a friction between him and the party. Some party members and executives accused him of betrayal and sellout. Many members of the party called for his expulsion from the party.

Hon. Mohamed Bangura resisted and continue going to parliament and participating in parliamentary proceedings.

Later in 2023, there was a dialog meeting in which both the government of Julius Maada Bio and the APC leadership discussed the way forward for the sake of the country. The APC party authorized the rest of the members of parliament to resume parliamentary proceedings.

In 2024, a committee was set to look into the behavior of Hon. Mohamed Bangura and the committee recommended a disciplinary action be taken against Hon. Mohamed Bangura. He was suspended from the party and he is still serving his suspension.

Hon. Mohamed Bangura realized that his suspension is politically motivated. he intends to contest for the flag bearership of the party in 2026. He will not qualify to contest if he is still under suspension. This is the reason he is leaving the party to contest in another political party called the PDP.
